Rothwell Primary School Curriculum
In Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception) we follow a creative curriculum, tailored to the interests and needs of the children. The curriculum is based on the three characteristics of effective learning which are playing and exploring, active learning and creating and thinking critically.
Our school follows the National Curriculum in KS 1 and 2 and uses a topic based approach on a 2 year cycle.
In KS 1 our phonics teaching follows the Letters and Sounds programme and uses a wide range of resources including Jolly Phonics resources, Phonics Bug, Floppy’s Phonics and Songbirds. Oxford Reading Tree is our main reading scheme, with a range of other supplementary reading material.
More detailed information about topics and the curriculum for each subject is sent out to parents every half-term in newsletters and our staff are always happy to discuss the curriculum that our school is following.
